Front carb pump not working - poping sound at high speed
So I started over with all the checks since I did not find any vacuum leak anywhere using the ether technique. My next check was ignition timing. I had it set to about 7 degrees, using the following technique. I measured the pulley diameter. the circumference is then 2*Pi*D/2. I divided the circumfe...

Re: Can't find vaccum leak. Backfiring, missing on accelerat
Engine still a mess. After finding the hose for vacuum balance between the intake manifolds, I expected all problems to be solved.. but unfortunately i am still dealing with backfiring and low power on acceleration. I need to pump the throttle to get the engine to carry load to start the truck. Idle...

Re: Can't find vaccum leak. Backfiring, missing on accelerat
when you rebuilt the carbs did you replace the accelerator pump seals? http://www.aa1car.com/library/carburetor.htm http://www.thecarburetorshop.com/Troubleshooting.htm I have changed them... but your logic is good! I also suspected about them... however I could see the jets of fuel when I pump the...

Would that mean bad spark?pinzinator wrote:Sounds like a bad condensor. Replacement is not expensive.

Re: Can't find vaccum leak. Backfiring, missing on accelerat
As Stekay said, weak spark can idle well but as you open the throttle the weak spark is quenched and is lost. Have you checked the coil + terminal for ~17 volts when running? I had very similar performance (or lack of performance) and it was due to failure of the 4500 RPM box making the spark weak....

Re: Can't find vaccum leak. Backfiring, missing on accelerat
Could the carbs not be getting enough fuel when the throttle is open? Wrong or blocked jetting? Running lean. Maybe the fuel hose or pump cant keep up with the increased fuel demand? The carb works different when it's idling than when you open the throttle, could be something you missed in there. N...

Re: Can't find vaccum leak. Backfiring, missing on accelerat
So many thanks for the suggestions. To answer some of the questions... The engine starts well. During the first few minutes, with today's temps of around 70F, it did not need choke, and adding choke when cold make the idle a little rough and occasionally, a mild pop from the exhaust. When hot, the e...

Re: Ignition Coil and idling issues. NOT solved. Backfiring.
I used starting fluid.. apparently it is a 50% ether mixture. They probably made it safer to handle. Anyway, could not find any leaks by spraying the base of the carburetors... I will start a new thread since I feel it has not much to do with Ignition Coil and Idling....

How is this group of resistances and diodes called?
Hello,
Found problems in my dashboard and ended up finding broken contacts in this unit. I wanted to read more about the specifics of the components but I am not sure how to search for it in the forum.

Diodes and resistances unit
I was having issues with the dashboard lights and found this thing obviously not original, all messed up. It looks like a set of diodes and resistances, numbered 68 and 69 on the electrical diagrams. What is it called? I would like to do a search in the forum but can't find the right words to find i...

Re: Ignition Coil and idling issues SOLVED! (I think..)
After fixing the hose, I started the engine. Now it idles ok, with the mixture screws at about 2 turns out, as expected. I did not have a lot of time to play with the settings as I had to go. I noticed it takes a time for the rpms to drop down to idle. Will check for leaks with some ether tomorrow.
