Re: Red Dot Air Conditioning on a 712K - install and pics

G'Day Slappo, I just wondered how the Red Dot was performing? Given the high temperatures we've had of late, the fact that the weather bureau have said we can expext increased numbers of hot days in the coming years and as the 718 rebuild is progressing well, ones thought turn to its future use and ...

Re: 4 screws for upper hat loose and wont tighten?

I assume you are talking about the four, M6 X 40mm, cylinder head screws, that come up from the bottom, through the cast iron throttle body chamber and into the alloy carb body! I find it hard to imagine that all four screws have stripped out (at the same time), but if so it's a simple matter to re-...

Re: Best rear LED's I've seen, now on the farm 712.....

To get the 718 appoved for registration it has to go though a complex checking/approval system by a registered RAW's Engineer ........it gets checked a number of times throughout it's rebuild/evolution and he is thorough

Re: Best rear LED's I've seen, now on the farm 712.....

What a bummer, I've been looking for an LED equivalent of the TD tail light and Speaker do sell some products in Australia, but not the 265's.
It appears they aren't ADR (Australian Design Rules) approved.
Any similar looking TD lights I have found so far are cheap Chinese copies/units.

Re: Merry Christmas (Eve) to everyone!

Well it's after midnight now, so officially it's CHRISTMAS :D I haven't heard any reindeer on the roof or seen a fat man with a beard (apart from myself in the mirror), but maybe he's waiting for the household to go to sleep....mind you it's still 29C so not really sleeping weather. It's meant to be...

Re: 718k just appeared on ebay

I tend to agree Tony, as I believe that if the roof was really bowed, there would be further signs of distortion or damage on other body areas, such as the upper curved side panels. Additionally, the full roll bar behind the rear door (just like the front layout), would surely distort outwards etc i...

Re: 718k just appeared on ebay

I saw that the other day and thought he was asking a fair bit.......Mind you S-Tec recently had a fully rebuilt 718M (a nice job.......first registered in 1991, but with a P80 grille), for sale on their website for 90,000 euro (well, 89,900 euro :D ) and K's are worth a fair bit more.

My "Skinny Pinny's" ...... as a mate calls them.

Whilst I'm a Pinzgauer and Haflinger "fanatic", I've had a thing for all things Steyr Puch for over 40 years. I ride a bike purely for exercise and am not overly enthusiatic about bicycles (particularly 2 wheel ones.... hence I ride a 3 wheel recumbent), but when a friend said his neighbou...

Re: New Zealand Pinz

I don't know about Kiwis on the forum (there are plenty here in Australia if you want some) but I have it on good authority from a Haflinger enthusiast in NZ that he only knew of two (2) privately owned Pinzgauers in the country.

Re: Treadwright...no 255/85r16s/ Swamper LTB 34s?

To my mind I don't think you'll find a aggressive treaded tyre (like the Swamper TSL, Simex ET etc) in a radial.......Now I maybe wrong, but I'm guessing a radial carcass isn't really suitable to build a big blocky tread pattern on. I never had any trouble with the Swampers or with the Simex tyres I...

Re: Show us ya tool...pinz specific tooling

the vacuum distributor on your spare motor... Did it work? It came like that from the SDP....it's actually out of my factory 710-1.6 prototype which was built for Australian Military trials back in the mid 80's. The vehicle is a strange mix of air cooled and TD......longer wheelbase than a 710, dis...

Re: Show us ya tool...pinz specific tooling

Ohhh, two of my favourite subjects, Pinzgauers and Tools. :D 8) Over the years I've made many specific tools and jigs to facilitate work for my vehicles (the 712 and Haffies) but lately had to add to the collection for the 718. A lot of tools required to work on the on the 718 are more "commerc...

Re: How High Have You Driven Your Pinz?

I live at 5500 feet elevation. The truck runs well at sea level and have been as high as 11,000 feet :( :( :( :( Wow, the highest mountain in Australia is only 7,310 feet (2,228 metres) :( :( :( :( The highest drivable point in Australia is Mount McKay at 6043 feet (1842 metres) but even if I'd bee...

Re: Treadwright...no 255/85r16s/ Swamper LTB 34s?

I used to run 9X34-16 Swampers on my 712 .....loved them, a great off road tyre that compliments the Pinzgauers strengths ...... and weaknesses! On the bitumen they wore like they were going out of style, but so do most aggressive tyres. I changed to Simex Extreme Trekkers simply because Swampers go...
