OEM Hydraulic Jack leaking
We've had our 71 710M for a few weeks now. The OEM jack has been behind the back seat with no leaks. I used it today to put one new tire on and it started leaking from the valve and a little around the base. I didn't get the jack handle with the vehicle so I used some pliers to close the valve, mayb...

Re: 710M OEM type seat fabric
I believe finding similar fabric in rolls might be complicated. You could cannibalize swiss army bags. The "old" rucksacks tend to go up in price, but these (model 90) start to become available: http://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/used-swiss-m90-rucksack-olive-drab?a=864991 They ...

Re: 710M Top Center Antenna Cap/Plate
SAV just confirmed that they did send me the wrong cover. They do have correct used caps like mine and they are sending me one. They made a mistake and are responding to make it good really well. The correct round cap is SAV part number 7131950581U group 31-35-03 in case anyone else needs one. The f...

710M OEM type seat fabric
My driver's seat needs repair, and I absolutely love the military fabric on the seat. Not sure if it's OEM but likely is. It's a very heavy canvas/vinyl feeling fabric. I saw old posts about fabric, nothing to help the current situation. I doubt very much that my upholstery shop will have access to ...

Re: Hi From Mesquite, NV - New To Us 1971 Pinzgauer 710M
How did you get your new wheels balanced? Unfortunately the Pinz wheels are true by Lug not Hub. All tire shops balance from the hub assuming that when you mount from the lugs balance is maintained. For proper balance you need an adapter that mounts to the wheel and gives a true hub reference -- yo...

Re: Hi From Mesquite, NV - New To Us 1971 Pinzgauer 710M
Is that a new doghouse (engine cover) from SAV. Looks nice and clean! No, it was on the vehicle. It does look better than a lot of pictures I've seen. It does have some cracks on the edge of the top piece that slips in. It looks like it's been painted some time along the way. I have removed it and ...

Re: Hi From Mesquite, NV - New To Us 1971 Pinzgauer 710M
Well, we've had the Pinz for 3 weeks now. Haven't driven it since to the DMV to register it. Been working hard on getting everything together to put new tires on it and get a CB, Ham Radio and DC outlet for GPS and phone charging. Also picked up a few miscellaneous things that needed replacement. I'...

Re: Radio Plug for Power Details
I wanted to finish this with I'm going to use the ground connection at the battery switch rather than the short ground to the screw on the existing radio plug box. The ham radio and CB instructions say to wire the negative wire directly to the battery negative terminal as I've done in other vehicles...

Re: 710M Top Center Antenna Cap/Plate
Since the antenna base itself is insulated from the roll bar by the rubber gasket, the RF grounding of the antenna base and cap is through the mounting bolts. So I'm planning to coat the bolts with SANCHEM 2OZ TUB NO-OX-ID A-SPECIAL CONDUCTIVE GREASE ANTENNA ANTI CORROSION before I re-install them.

Re: Hagerty insurance
I just signed up with Hagarty on our new to us 71 Pinzgauer 710M. When they saw my pictures they asked if it was garaged, and I said no, under a patio cover. That raised the rate a little but didn't kill the deal. They asked if I off-road with it and I told them yes, scenic driving on dirt roads. Th...

Re: Radio Plug for Power Details
The official military soldering specifications require that the strands of the wire be pre-tinned before soldering into the pin pocket. Doing this is just best practice; it has several benefits: The surface of the wire has "new" untarnished solder and the space between all the strands is ...

Re: Radio Plug for Power Details
The last point I'm not clear on is soldering the new wire into the new plug pins. Are you suggesting tinning the wire itself first before putting it into the pin so that it's more solid than the stranded wire? I can also see putting solder into the new pin with the new wire in it, because it isn't a...

Re: Radio Plug for Power Details
To finish up the documentation, the rubber plug goes on top of where you weld the new wire to the pins with the larger holes in the rubber plug going onto the pins. The plastic sleeve then goes over the rubber plug and the top compression nuts pushes down on that sleeve. The holes in the rubber plug...
