Re: Engine Oil Leak on bottom of cylinder head nearest drive

I'll order a new gasket, I imagine SAV has them.

From past experience with other old vehicles, trying to stop a leak by tightening the cover usually just makes the leak worse. Since I haven't touched it, do you think I should see if it will snug up a little?

Re: Engine Oil Leak on bottom of cylinder head nearest drive

Did you take the valve cover off? You may need a new gasket. Pretty simple fix, just make sure you don't put it on upside down. Just for piece of mind as I think you're a new owner - this is minor. Thank you very much! I feel better knowing that as you can imagine. We haven't touched anything. You'...

Engine Oil Leak on bottom of cylinder head nearest driver

Our new to us 1971 710M has an engine oil leak on the bottom of the rear cylinder. It's clean up top on the valve cover. Any idea what's going on here?

Re: Engine Oil Level Too High

Did you add oil and when, just after running or sitting for a long time. Same question on when you measured the Oil level and saw it high. Do you know the brand and P/N of the Oil filter? Some filters have check valves some don't, some with checks leak, some hold Oil in the filter for a very long t...

Thanks everyone for the input. Learning more about what I've got every day.

The previous Owner did install the PinzSSI system, so I'm good on that.

Re: Engine Oil Level Too High

Thanks for the suggestions. I haven't done anything myself to the vehicle since we got it two weeks ago. The Pinz had been sitting for 2 days before I checked the oil. In fact, it's been sitting for most of the time the previous Owner had it, he only put 100 miles on it in 4 years. I've only driven ...

Re: How to get troup marking plate painted

Now I'm wondering how the Swiss Army would have marked it. 71 is still modern times. Slap a sticker on it, mark it by hand? I'd love to know the history.

Re: How to get troup marking plate painted

Now a days it is cheaper and easier to set the design you want and have a local sign shop make a printer wrap for the plain sign. Just like wrapping a NASCAR. There are many good images. I was thinking of the one below. By the way the Suisse Armee sign are also grammatically wrong. The word order i...

Re: How to get troup marking plate painted

I did search, will try some more.

We can tell from our faded paint that our 710M had the plates on it. So we want them on it as it was. My son just suggested we put our family coat-of-arms on it!

Re: How to get troup marking plate painted

Wow, didn't know that. That puts a totally different perspective on it. Maybe we write something like that on them ourselves.

Still would like to know if people are getting them painted and how though.

How to get troup marking plate painted

I received my troup marking plates from SAV today. I was expecting them to painted red with the white cross and the swiss text, but they are just blank bare metal. I called SAV and they said they're always that way. Has anyone gone through having blank plates painted with the Swiss Army details? I i...
