Re: Wiper Motor Death!

It seems there is a brass bushing in front that needs to be replaced sometimes. I'm taking mine to the VW mechanic tomorrow (he has made some bushings before) because older VWs and Porsches have the same motor.

Re: Wiper Motor Death!

Can you please elaborate on how you placed feeler gauges around the armature to center it before tightening up the screws? I should have thought of this, I know.

Re: Fuel Gauge not working

Use the search feature. For a permanent solution you are supposed to run a grounding cable from the sender to the dash somewhere, since the ground is the tank itself. Otherwise remove tank, clean and lubricate screws and nuts, and reinstall and wait for the problem to reappear in the future.

Re: Motorcycle In A Pinzgauer

The short answer is no, unfortunately. You need both accesses. You should remove the pyramid-shaped access to fill the gearbox with oil, or it is easier that way. I usually find mud or other stuff in mine. The left access is important to check or repair the shift linkage. Can't you just carry your m...

Re: Strange Haflinger

I thought all of them came with a little snorkel up front that pointed up but could be turned down when you lowered the windshield.. The one I drove came with a v-belt pulley on the driveshaft that could be accessed via a trapdoor on the bed between the rear footwells, useful for running a generator...

Re: Pinz Radios

Follow Edzz advice and get the Shakespeare; I haven't found one that suits my budget yet. I use the 15' central antenna for HF with an antenna tuner, although it's supposed to be for HF receive only, or so I've read. It works so-so, but I seldom use the HF on the move anyway. When I'm parked I take ...

Re: Oil on the brake shoes - what are the usual suspects?

OK, there are two sizes of seals; 55mm and 60mm IIRC. You'll have to disassemble first to find out before ordering them. There are also some o-rings that I replaced, one per axle. I ordered my seals beforehand and had to go look for the correct size later; you'll probably find them at a place like N...

Re: Contents of a "Boonie Box"?

I don't carry an extra fuel pump, but I guess I will someday. What I've seen guys in Jeeps do here is they zip-tie a gallon or so plastic container filled with fuel up high and run a plastic transparent hose through a hole in its cap to the carb(s). I also always carry extra fuel, and am about to in...

Castrol 20W50, but it is warmer here. I have always used Castrol in all the cars I've owned.

Re: Gov Liquidation pulled all 2.5 and 5 ton trucks.

I think climate change is a global problem that requires a global solution. Ships, airplanes, power boats, motorhomes, full size pickup trucks, SUVs and golf course mowers all contribute to that change. And let's not forget coal and bunker fuel-burning electric generator plants that work 24 hours a ...

Vince, I know some people who have these, although the new ones, and say they need the G500 at least since they are very heavy and therefore underpowered. I'd like some thoughts from you on this point, since the new ones are for millionaires.

Re: reverse trouble

My reverse does not engage unless the motor is running and I first engage First gear before attempting Reverse. I have assumed this is normal, is it not?
