Re: speedo cable/gearing

I have the same problem. There is a crown gear that is driven off the front differential and apparently it can come off or break a tooth. Anyway, from the manual, the only way to get to that plate on the front of the diff is to take off the front bumper, the supporting structure, and all the steerin...

Re: torquing carb to manifold

Not that I am aware of, and I have pulled and rebuilt my carbs before. The only thing I would recommend is some mid strength loctite. They seem to vibrate loose pretty easily if you don't use a little loctite and that will play all heck with your carb synchronization.

Re: Truck starts but won't idle

This morning the truck started and idled normally although it is backfiring occasionally into the carbs. The carb solenoids all tested normally. I'm assuming something got wet yesterday and it's time for a tune up.

Re: Truck starts but won't idle

Gentlemen, I had exactly the same problem tonight as I was leaving my hunting spot. I was had just closed the gate and the truck just died. For a while it would not fire at all. I finally pulled choke and she would run rough as long as I kept the RPMs up. So tomorrow I'll check the solenoids and I e...

Re: Gear reduction starter servicing

Jim, You are correct. The dash lights were going out when cranking. And the problem was one of the batteries was dead. Given the batteries lasted nine years I won't complain and the reputation of EI's starter remains unspoiled! I took the second battery out and it will serve as a trolling motor batt...

Re: Gear reduction starter servicing

By the way, I had checked the terminals at the starter while I was in the woods. They seemed fine.

I just opened the battery box and looked, the batteries are marked 01/06!

Re: Gear reduction starter servicing

Thanks Paul and Jim. I will probably call EI Monday On the batteries, there is the possibility they are the problem. These are Yellow Top Optimas I put in to support the 24 v winch I put on several years ago. I don't have my maintenance log here with me but they are probably pushing five years. I ma...

Gear reduction starter servicing

Hi Folks, I have had the Gear Reduction Starter from EI for a few years. I love it and to this point it has been great. Yesterday I was at my deer stand when the starter went out. The solenoid clicks and buzzes but no spin from the motor. So, my question is anyone have some tips on servicing this th...

Water in the key hole under the dog house lock plates.

Hey guys, I took a buddy and son mudding for the son's thirteenth birthday. It was great and were in some of the deepest water I have run in for years. We had water coming under the dog house and I spent a good part of today pulling weeds from all over the engine. Anyway, I noticed a problem I had n...

Re: Engine bogging

Fuel pump or fuel filter. A good friend of mine, who had been a mechanic at one point in his life, says to start with the simple explanation first. After spending a lot of time on my own theories, I have learned my lesson. In your case, my thinking is this, it was ok at idle but not at speed. What i...
