Re: Leaks - front differential and portal

To soften copper or brass work hardened washers heat the removed washer with a propane torch until it glows and then quench it in water. A gas stove burner will work too but oven temp will do nothing. A Land Rover owner would call your leaks "as good as new"! Did they effect the fluid leve...

Re: How to best activate my 4x4?

CO2 in tires will make them seem like they have a slow leaks as the molecules are so small that they will make their way through tiny pores. This can be proven by catching CO2 in a balloon over a bottle of yeast, sugar and water. You will notice that it falls more quickly than a balloon filled by bl...

Pinz 710M in Hawaii 50

Can anyone identify whose 710M was in the latest Hawaii 50? I just finished watching it and was excited to see one on tv.

Cheers, Clive

Re: Tire pressure

I found 32 lbs was good up front and settled on 28 rear when empty (32 loaded). Very close to Ed's pressure. The tires (maker) and the temp will effect the flexibility and your results.

You will likely find as many opinions as there are members. :)

Re: Tire pressure

The chalk method worked well with 295/75/16 BFG tires (just over 33") last fall. Got the front set with even contact and a little lighter contact on the inside of the rear. Didn't have enough time to play with it further. The independent suspension does explain the rear due to the angle. I've u...

Re: Tire pressure

To find the optimum tire pressure set all wheels to the same pressure and then draw a wide chalk line across each wheel's tread. Now dive in a straight line for a few tire revolutions. Check the lines. If the chalk has worn primarily in the center the pressure is too high. If the edges are worn, the...

Re: EZ power steering

I purchased my 79-710M last fall and changed the tires to BFG 295/75/16 (they clear nicely and don't rub at full lock) which steer with no difficulty. Perhaps I am showing my age (50) but if you don't try to turn the wheel when the truck isn't moving, just like old manual steering tractors, there is...

Re: 50+ year old Land rover 2a diesel (63rover) and my 79 -7

If any of you have not seen Dreadnaught's videos of his trucks and his beautiful spot in Poland check them out. Beautiful! (A very cool little 250 mz motorcycle too!) The directions are on the last page. The Safari top does have the vents. It gives very good air flow. The only problem is the wasps l...

Re: 50+ year old Land rover 2a diesel (63rover) and my 79 -7

Sounds like a great idea. There is a Toronto Rover group as well as the Ottawa Valley Land Rover Club I go out with at times. Also planning a longer run on the Trans Canada Adventure Trail in Ont. or Que. this summer. Did the Trans Labrador last year so will stay closer this time. The Pinz has 60k i...

Re: 50+ year old Land rover 2a diesel (63rover) and my 79 -7

Thanks for the replies. I live just outside Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The rims are stock and the tires are 295s. The BFG application chart rates them as fine for the stock rim width. I changed to them from a worn set of original tires. The steering in fine as long as you are moving, of course. They...

50+ year old Land rover 2a diesel (63rover) and my 79 -710m

Just joined the group recently. Enjoying reading and learning more. Just thought I would share my trucks.

Cheers, Clive

PS The Pinz is on BFG 295/75/16 which makes it 10% faster than the speedo reads.
