I can testify to the failure of the locator pin/bolt to keep the axle from spining on the stub shaft. I clean the stub shaft as to remove any rust/debris and reassemble dry. If the porta-power is used correctly, it wont cause any damage when removing. I install the axle end with a wedge and a lever.

thats the plan. remove the axle end and spring, pull the rings(stop, and o) and replacing the boot.

if you expect the o ring to be replaced without cutting. the axle end will have to come off. If its the front axle, have fun compressing and re installing the spring.
