Re: Thinking of a Pinz

I have owned two Iltis's and a 710M. Comparing the two is really apples and oranges. The Iltis is a better road vehicle with its speed and gearing, like a car, but the approach and decent angles are a real problem off-road. On serious technical trails, an Iltis just gets really hung up and beat up....

Re: Thinking of a Pinz

As for licensing it, the fact that it came from Montreal just meant that it was pretty much exempt from everything!!! The pain in buying a vehicle like this from Quebec, which is where my Iltis was from, is that they have Provincially funded insurance, so they seem to cover everything, which ...

Re: Interior width

I didn't mean to throw cold water on your enthusiasm. Some people have modified their trucks to fit their needs and tastes in ways I would never have imagined, so I'm sure something is possible... but in stock form the rear panels (each side of the door, with the licence plate) will be in the way. ...

Re: Thinking of a Pinz

Funny, I think it really all depends on your broker's influence here in the north. My guys didn't care if it was Military, para military or extra terrestrial.....they just didn't know what the hell it was. When I described it as an ex military troop carrier, that could convert to a pickup truck, wh...

Re: Interior width

Thanks guys. I assumed the rear doors came off all Pinzgauer models. Getting over the tailgate would be too difficult.

Interior width

I know the width of a Pinz is 1.76m or 69.3in, but does anyone know the width on the inside of the bed sidewalls? I was thinking that with some plywood or 2x4s laid down over the seats/wells, to make a flat surface, I could haul my Ural around with me. The Ural is 66.9in wide, from outer cylinder he...

Re: Thinking of a Pinz

"Military vehicle"? I had no idea ; ) I just gave my insurance co. (frmers) what they asked for...make? Steyr. Model? pinzgauer. what is it? a utility vehicle. and I shut up. Thanks to reading the threads here with warnings NOT to mention military, as well as not calling it a truck in ca....

Re: Thinking of a Pinz

A word to the wise for the original poster.....get out and drive one. You won't be disappointed. I am pretty sure I won't be disapointed...even if I cannot get to drive one before I buy one... ...did that with my Iltis and I was happy. As far as insurance, getting the Iltis listed was a h...

Re: Thinking of a Pinz

To be fair, the two guys I know who own a Pinz also own other off-roaders. One also owns an Iltis, although his is a '79 German one. I asked both why did you get (whatever) when you already have a Pinzgauer. Both said as much as they like their Pinz, they encounter off-road situations with trees an...

Re: Thinking of a Pinz

I was just doing a lil searching and found this video - http://youtu.be/W5b8jf4_ZSQ Couldnt be a more perfect comparison of the two :D That is awesome! I don't know how I missed that. You know, I co-hosted a Ural rally in the same area of Ontario this August (coincidentally there was a 4x4 rally th...

Re: Thinking of a Pinz

I would recommend trying to find insurance immediately, that's what was my biggest headache and took the longest. I was insulted when my own insurance company rep. actually laughed and said, "obviously we can't insure that, it's not even a private passenger vehicle", but I followed up wit...

Thinking of a Pinz

Hello. I have been checking out this forum and the Yahoo Pinzgauer forum for a little while now, and I am REALLY interested in a Pinz, either a 710M/K. A year ago I purchased a restored 1985 Bombardier Iltis (former Canadian Military vehicle), but I am not so sure I would have....if I saw the Pinz :...
