Re: Wiper Motor Death!
I tried to look up German brass in my mat'ls handbook but couldn't find it. Do I need to add "good"?

Re: Pinzgauer On Curvy Roads
if you really concerned... and you seem like you are, a 30"x36"x1" steel plate will weigh 308 lbs. I'd make sure it REALLY secure. A lot easier to just drive sensibly.

Re: Electrical Upgrades For A Factory Restored 710M?
The real one was in the swept position, the decoy in the normal parked position. I suppose if it was raining there was total confusion.

Thanks for the heads up. It's just now the end of the rainy season so if you were good 2 weeks ago, that's a good omen for me.

Re: Darien Gap
That's correct. Usually on the Caribbean side. I'll be paralleling the border about 50-30 km away. Between the smugglers, kidnappers, FARC, and corrupt Columbian military, it's way too dangerous. The Puma, snakes, poison dart frogs are enough adventure for me. Between flooding, Panamanian border pat...

Darien Gap
I'll be leaving for Panama soon with the hope of hiking through the Darien National Park from the Sambu River SW to Bahia Pinas. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience in the area?

WOW! And I'm assuming you weren't at very high RPM. Did you have the fan break at the hub and come out of the surround or did you just lose blades. You have me thinking of a mod with a coarse screen in front of the fan and and a kevlar wrap around the surround duct. Glad it missed you!

Re: Electrical Upgrades For A Factory Restored 710M?
Very cool. A bit of trivia... the way to tell which held the Bill of Rights and which was the "decoy" truck was the position of the windshield wiper blades.

Re: Fan alternatives?
I don't recall ever hearing of anyone on the forum having lost a fan unless crossing a stream. It's true that our trucks at ~40 years old are probably more brittle than when new and prone to a failure if damaged in some way. The Porsche fan is an interesting option at a similar price. Have you done ...

My buddy worked for Bran when they did R&D for Disney (Imagineering) They used a pair of armored 712's during the Bicentennial to tour the Bill of Rights around the country.

It will be considered as remanufactured and the year of the work being done is it year of manufacturer.
Believe me, I've spent a lot of time and frustration talking to customs and DOT. It sucks for all because some people couldn't follow the rules out of GREED.

Re: Did The Pinz 710M Come With A Heater?
It started with Land Rovers and then Mini's that were late model having fake VIN plates to the point that it's VERY heavily scrutinized now. If the body is "restored" to new AND the chassis also restored, you have basically no chance of the vehicle being accepted as the year it was born. I...
