What year is your Pinz? 1974 and older are no problem, just get a weight slip at a certified scale and a VIN verification by the CHP. If it is newer you may have problems, give it a try anyway. Just walk into DMV with the paperwork, you may get lucky.

I used Redline in my transmission and recommend it to anyone who wants to do the same. Good stuff, but it will leak out the rear seal if it is worn. The seal is easy to replace and available from Pinz dealers. Get a hand pump from NAPA that screws into a gallon jug, they are about $10 and work well....

I use Rain-ex. Took the wipers off and the washer bottle out 2 years ago, and have never missed either. Of course we only get 2 inches of rain a year, and I take a different vehicle when it might rain. Not everyone can do that.

The problem turned out to be something internal in the rebuilt master cylinder, something would not release the pressure to the front brakes over time. A very competent mechanic rebuilt it, so I would rule faulty workmanship out. It was a factory kit, so who knows? I bought a new master cylinder fro...

I always spin the tire to center it while hand tightening the lug nuts in sequence. Once the tire is back on the ground, I tighten to 65 ft/lbs in sequence, then 95. After a few miles I tighten again to 95. Never had a problem and the Pinz rides OK.

I replaced my fuel pump and filter and I haven't smelled gas since then. I don't know why the difference would be, but I'll take it.

Jim I just took the Pinz down off the jacks a short time ago. I went over everything again and discovered that I did not have the brake shoe return springs intalled correctly after all. I have no idea how I got it wrong when I installed them recently, as they barely pulled on the shoes. No damage, j...

Piston rod adjustment

I rebuilt the master cylinder in my 710M using the factory kit, and now the front brakes don't seem to release all of the way, despite the shoes being adjusted all of the way back. The shoes have less than 1000 km. The repair manual states that the piston rod should be adjuted to 1 mm clearance, whi...

Dunsel is an actual word? I remember hearing the term in a Star Trek episode entitled "The Ultimate Computer", where a Star Fleet officer refers to Captain Kirk as Captain Dunsel. Spock explains the meaning, which collaberates with what Jim said in a earlier post. Hey, if I can't help with...

I have used Redline in my transmission for about 2 years with excellant results. Perfect shift every time. The rear seal has to be good or it might leak, but it's easy to replace. The whining noise comes from the differentials, I use regular gear oil there.

Every year or so I'll run the Pinz down to where there's almost no gas in the tank. Then I'll pull the plug and drain the gas out and use it in the lawnmower or dump it if there's any crud or water. Never had a fuel system problem yet.

Peter, could you post a picture of this container? I'm sure one could be fabricated from a milk jug or laundry bottle. Show it in place on the Pinzgauer, too, if possible.

Great post! Thanks to your pictures I went out and checked my OEM batteries, which were in the 710M when it arrived from Europe in 2004. Sure enough, minute cracks are starting to develop, something I had not noticed even though I check the batteries several times a year. I went to the Sears website...

Slowly rotate the drum and observe how far the shoe is from the drum by looking through the adjusting hole. Make sure the distance remains constant for 360 degrees, make adjustments based on what you see before making the final adjustment. This way you are starting with a uniform setting on all 4 sh...
