The entire vehicle is the result of some amazing engineering, the Pinzgauer never ceases to amaze me. The air cleaner was one item I figured I could alter without harming the driveline mechanics or performance. And that was by simply removing a section of it. The stock inlet to the air cleaner is 2 ...

The weatherstripping on my doors is in excellent condition, plus I treat it twice a year with WD-40. It's just one of those clearance issues that the weatherstrip can't compensate for, we're talking a millimeter or two. http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad303/rmf1958/DSC06404.jpg Here's where I put...

Door rattle cure

Are you tired of that annoying front door rattle? Here's a $2 cure. Get a piece of Velcro tape (fuzzy side) and place it in the striker plate where the latch makes contact. Instant cure, and it might even last a year or two before you have to cough up another $2. There is no adjustment for the latch...

Try this for fun

Out of curiousity I took the cap off of the end of my air cleaner assembly, it is held by 2 wire springs. That round section is apparently a dust trap, and there was some dirt inside. I noticed how much of the air filter was exposed with the end off, so I left it off. A quick calculation revealed th...

Does anyone have a clutch alignment tool part number (or substitute)? Or can I get away with using a dowel rod like I did in the Volkswagen days?

OK, I'm stumped on this one. How do you measure the thickness of the clutch disc while it is in the vehicle? I see no inspection plate, so I removed the little plate that covers the plunger on the clutch slave cylinder. Using a mirror and flashlight I could barely see the disc, much less measure it....

I saw these on EBay last week and bought a pair. Not exactly a custom item, but I've only seen these knobs on Austrian Pinzgauers. http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad303/rmf1958/DSC06392.jpg To make them fit I had to drill and tap the old hole to accomodate a 1.5X10 mm thread size. http://i946.pho...

Here's my A/C (24 volt fan) and a cup holder. Both come in handy! I wired the fan into the map light switch, and made the mounting bracket out of the same aluminum used for the windshield brackets.

Handbrake adjustment

There was an earlier post about the handbrake, which I could relate to. Mine didn't want to hold, and the thought of tearing it down for an inspection wasn't appealing. So I got out the maunal to see what the proceedure was for agjustment. The manual said the handle should pull out about 90-100mm fo...

In the end of the distributor shaft you will see a tiny sponge, this is visible when you remove the rotor. Always add a few drops of oil to this sponge whenever you do service work, as this keeps the inner shaft lubricated.

David, I use a simple rubber bungee cord to hold the windshield down. I run the cord behind the front hitch pin and then hook both ends onto the windshield frame. Never had a problem. The rubber stoppers on the support brackets keep everything from getting scratched. http://i946.photobucket.com/albu...

You and Miles make a good point, so I got the struts out and installed them. I did have to push the windshield forward slightly to get the first one in place. I've owned this Pinz for 5 years and took always the top completely off every summer, including all the struts, and never had a problem, but ...

You're right, the last thing I need to do is bend the frame. But I really don't thing the bungee cords I use are strong enough. The sun visors are what tensions the top when still, otherwise the fabric is somewhat limp. http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad303/rmf1958/DSC06296.jpg This is the fabric...

Everyone who has owned a Pinzgauer has added their own personal touches. My most recent was a bikini top, which was made from material available from Jo Ann Fabrics, a 1X2 from Lowes, and brass grommets and bunjee cords from Ace. Total investement was about $48, including hiring someone to sew the o...

I've had no problems at all with the Doetsch shocks. It isn't like they're suddenly going to make the Pinz ride like a Cadillac, I don't think any shock could. Springs have a lot to do with the ride. Here's a few photos I took last week when I did the last axle on my Pinz. I'm glad the work is done!...
