Re: Volvo ratios
Perhaps to answer the first question:- Portal box reduction = 2.06:1 - all versions Diff ratios = 9x33 = 3.666666 (x 2.06 = 7.553333:1) - TGB20 6x6 9x31 = 3.444444 (x 2.06 = 7.095555:1) - TGB13 6x6 11x32 = 2.90909 (x 2.06 = 5.992727:1) - TGB11 4x4 Transfer Case ratio = all versions High 1:1 Low 2.39...

Re: Volvo leaf to coil Spring conversion
I knew I had seen one somewhere... and after much searching.. there is was in you blog...
I guess you already know that one.
Heaps of Land Rivers have been converted to Volvo axles, and many of them are running coils. That set up shouldn't be too hard.
Jez at HOFS may be able to help...

Re: Planetary gear leak?
Two places I know of are:- http://www.tatanka.nu/ - they have all the C303 parts available. and http://www.flyingspanners.net/ - who do a hub seal conversion. I need to resolve the same issue myself and will be visiting one of the local bearing suppliers to see if I can get matched seals. I imagine ...

Re: Planetary gear leak?
Hopefully this worked.
Hub section was extracted from one of the Volvo manuals (can't remember which one). The red circles show the three seals.
And a picture of my hub dismantled...

Re: Planetary gear leak?
Hi Marcus, The outer seal is the notorius "Stefa" seal. It is a dust/grease seal as the outer bearing is greased. The next seal is on the portal gear and prevents the oil getting from the gear side/inner bearing to the outer bearing. The nut on the shaft has an O-ring seal to prevent oil l...

Excellent work as always. When does the roof go on?
I was thinking of racing you to a roadworthy with my Volvo, but I somehow suspect that this is really a one horse race...

Peter,
Stunning work! This is the kind of quality I always imagine, but the reality as somewhat short of the mark - well in my world anyway...
Your world is inspiration to us all.
Keep up the exceptional work.

C303/TGB Owners in Australia??
Hi All,
I wonder? Where are they and who has them? Would be great to find out.
I know there are several here...
I have a TGB13 6x6 in Melbourne, Victoria, which as far as I can tell is the only one in Victoria, but would love to be proved wrong.
Cheers,
Ian.

Re: Drum to brake modification / conversion question
I'm not convinced about the need for new hubs, especially with front loaded discs. I am hoping that it is possible to machine down and stil make work with the current. I think I am on my own here, with the exception of the one in the link below, although, the bolt set up looks dubious... http://foru...

Re: Full hydraulic steering
Isn't full hydraulic steering illegal for road use? I thought the regulations required a mechanical connection, which doesn't exist in the hydraulic systems.
It's fine for competition trucks which are not road registered.

Re: Drum to brake modification / conversion question
Hi Selloutrr, I agree, it doesn't look that hard to do. It is on the top of the list of modifications that I am planning on doing when I finally get started on my truck. There is clearly no issue with braking performance, even with the weight (but check the GVM of most 4x4s for reference - I think y...
