I was smiling the whole time. Yeah, I'm smiling too -- wondering who reads this blather and believes it. $3.25 cost per mile for 100,000 miles? Thats almost a third of a million dollars! $1.95 per mile for 300,000 miles? That's almost TWO thirds of a million. I'm sorry, at my most generous I can't ...

Sand Tires

Some of the best "sand" tires I have seen used were oversized "balloon" tires that looked like worn out aircraft tires; no tread at all, but had a huge footprint. My thinking is that the bigger the donut is the better, but the next best thing is soft sidewalls to allow flex to in...

Jets vs. float level

The float level makes a BIG difference in how much/little fuel gets through the jets. If you float level is too high you MIGHT get by with 120's at sea level; if you float level is too low it might run OK at altitude with 140's. But if the float level is off you will probably always have some issues...

2nd question, what's the largest tire you can put on the stock wheel? I have 255/75/16s, and I pulled the tire off of the bead today by lowering the pressue to get into my garage. It looks like a larger/wider tire would work ok on the stock rim. I run 285/75R16's without problems on stock rims, and...

Chains or No Chains? Yes. Maloyas with decent tread really arn't too bad in deep snow, but are horrible on ice. Chains are awesome on ice (and act as paddles in deep snow) but PITA to install and drive on pavement. If you have steep hills, chains may be your best option. Even though ice is slippery...

Try a bare 1/4" female quick connect terminal - I have seen those used on similar sender connections. The connector slips sideways over the "head", while the space between the curled edges allows the narrow "post" to fit. Nice thing about this type of connection is that it d...

SoCal had the three Pinzgauers used in the movies, I have some pictures of them. Apparently there was a fair amount of footage of Arnold with them, but it ended up getting cut; the only scenes where I could find them were as they ran into the airplane hanger - one is on fire outside, the other is wi...

Humans have only been acuately monitoring and recording the temperature for the last hundred years or so; What's a hundred years in the grand scheme of things? It's like trying to decide if the tide is coming in our going out by monitoring each and every wave; you just can't tell from just a few wav...

I"ve had Discount Tires sipe the Michelins I had on a Cherokee years ago; couldn't really tell the difference at that time. However Discount has been a really fair and honest dealer that I have used, I would trust them if they guaranteed the siping. Living up in the mountains where I do I had s...

The switch will have ~24V between the two terminals when the brake is NOT depressed, when the switch is activated then you should see ZERO volts between its terminals.

I installed the TD tranny, which gives a 30% overdrive; even with a 2.7l conversion, cam, and FI it still doesn't have really enough power with that high an overdrive (15% would have been better). However, the reduced noise, wear, and ability to draft a semi without worring about the revs is nice! N...

So, if memory serves you could run a wire from the brake light switch (paralled with the wire to the turn signal switch and have proper functioning red lights on the vehicle and the same on the trailer. Be careful - one thing that is very different than "normal" vehicles is that the Pinz ...

Therefore if the breather hose becomes obstructed how can it then feed oil from the engine into the intake system? It doesn't make sense to me. There is a second breather hose from the top of cylinder #4 that goes to the oil filler tube too, just lower down. Oil and vapors from this hose and the cr...

I have never hooked up the trailer converter, but when I was changing my tailights to LEDs I found an unused wire that was brakes only, not the combination brake and turn that was wired to the bulbs. Can't remember what color it was, but I think it was only on the drivers (left) side light, no simil...
