Playing in the puddles

Had a lot of rain here in Scotland, had an hour spare this afternoon for fun, nothing too dramatic, infact a Transit van got through the water here, problem wasn't so much the depth but the flow!

The "Mantis" Bonnet out version is I think based on the Pinzgauer rather than the Pinzgauer II, it has the same track. I will upload pictures and info on Pinzgauer (not Pinzgauer II) when I have time later today.

Pinzgauer II

I have some more information and pictures of Pinzgauer II from BAE Land Systems. The pictures I think are computer generated as there is maybe only prototypes built, but from a oblique side view it doesn't look at all as bad as I initially thought. I am trying to get the images hosted on my site but...

The new tyres are almost exactly the same circumfrance as the Mayolas they replaced (to a mm or 2) I have them at 44 psi front 40 psi rear, they feel right handling wise. The truck turned in a good 16+ mpg across Europe, my recent trip was similar mix of mostly 90 kph roads, bit of 60 kph back roads...

10 MPG

Just done a 250 mile round trip and averaged 10mpg!! Only thing I can think is the new tyres. Maybe I need to run higher pressure or is this something I can expect from an aggressive tread off-road tyre. Averaged 16 mpg with the Mayolas before.

Your drive home of 3000 miles sounds like a great trip! I can see why it is a bit daunting as a first trip as I was nervous on the 32 mile home trip after buying my 710K a couple of years ago in Scotland. From having done a 4500 Km trip this year I would carry at least 5 litre of engine oil, yours m...

My truck on my tour of Europe used a little over 1 liter per 1000 km. It seems to use less on slower trips and more cruising at 90 - 100 kph. I feel this is normal but others may disagree!

The champ is quite rare, there are a few members of the Scottish Military Vehicle Group who have them, the really rare vehicle is an Austin Gipsy.

Yes I know George he's one of the regulars when the UK Pinz owners have a meet up. This summer what with people having babies and the terrible wet weather it ended up me and George were the only ones to venture out. Here's my truck on the mid summer trip, george's is probably in the mist somewhere!!...

Dale from Haflinger Technik here in Scotland rebuilt a trashed UK MOD TD last year, he must know a thing or two about what a restoration takes, was there anything specific you were wanting to know as I can ask him, or you could email him yourself through his web-site.
