Hatch rattle fix?

My roof hatch has developed a rattle at the hinge at speeds over 50MPH. I've confirmed this is the rattle site, and it largely seems to be due to some play in the hinge pin. It goes away with some upward pressure from inside and the noise can be replicated when stopped. I can imagine several possibl...

Re: Spark plug replacement interval

I'm looking for experiences from people running the original military-style plugs.

Thanks, though.

Maintenance spreadsheet

In order to keep my stable of vehicles' maintenance (MX) in order, I work from spreadsheets. I've attached the spreadsheet I use for the Pinz here in case it helps others. This one is built from the service interval guidelines as stated in the manuals (pg214). Note that for most items they don't cal...

Re: Spark plug replacement interval

Yes, that is the manual I was referring to -- I guess I should have quoted the chapter and verse.

The question was: what are people's actual experiences with practical replacement intervals?

Re: Consensus on wheel drive lubricant?

I use either a syringe or a pump-on-a-quart container -- both work fine.

Consensus on wheel drive lubricant?

What's the consensus on valid (preferred?) wheel drive lubricant? - Old school 80/90W is I believe okay, but pretty thick on a cold morning. I like to call it "auto-braking". - GL-5 Redline 75W90 seems an option, but there has been some fear expressed about it if an axle seal fails. Not su...

Spark plug replacement interval

The manual advises to replace spark plugs every 10km/200hr. Has anyone found that necessary? For similar plugs in aircraft, we change them when they're out of tolerance, but not based on hours.

Re: Thoughts on 12V on a TGB

If direct-conversion high-current no-12V-battery is your goal, then yes, that Eaton looks like a fine approach, and I generally agree that it's better to spend money on products that have been through thorough testing and certification in harsh environments than trying to go cheap. Youz payz in the ...

Another disadvantage is that it looks to be $700+.

Re: Thoughts on 12V on a TGB

I don't know the grounding scheme on the TGB, but on my Pinz my ground gets shared joined at the roof-center antenna connection, and I send home runs back to the battery from the radio.

Re: Thoughts on 12V on a TGB

Thanks! This all sounds great. Any issue having the connection between the 24v to 12v charger run on a 24v relay that is only active when ignition power is on? if what you're suggesting is a disconnect relay between the 24->12V charger and the 12V battery so when ship's power is off there's no conn...

Re: Thoughts on 12V on a TGB

This is similar to my approach, and for all the same reasons. A "12V" lithium from the same mfg as rmel listed, and I used a solar charge controller to do the downconversion from ship's 24V. Using a separate battery like this ensures when you run your 12V accessories that you don't dischar...

Re: Improve front seat mounting

The little pins that engage the passenger front seat mounting points are broken off my frame. I'm wondering if anyone has tried to improve the front mounting of the seat frame? Looking for ideas that might be better than just welding new pins on the frame. What do you have against the pin system? T...
