Re: 718 transport, remove 2 tires?

Running well and gutless, that's an oxymoron. Fuel filters! Dirty filters will think you're dragging a boat anchor, or have a bad wheel bearing. I got my 718 after sitting for a long time, with changing the filters I picked up 25 mph. You won't see that much of a change. Another item is the fr...

Re: 718 transport, remove 2 tires?

You'll find out how insane when you go to drive it. 712 and 718's rear axles are connected and torque goes to the point of least traction aka hanging wheel. Even being a 6x, they can be stuck on a slippery road and still require fwd or a locker to get moving. Don't overthink your trip home . There a...

Re: 718 Colorado title?

Most of the Pinzes in Colorado are 710 or 712. I believe there are at least 2 TDs registered there. I would expect registering a 718 with another's state title not that difficult . Most states have exceptions for unusual vehicles and engines. California is one that doesn't

Re: 718 Colorado title?

I can't help with registration, I can into the VIN. A little history, in 1980 what is called an ISO VIN began (actually 2). One used in North America and the other for the rest of the world. Both are 17 digits long , start with a world manufacturer identifier (3 digits) and the last series the chass...

Re: New member! Also, advice on a diesel pinz....

The parking brake internals are 710 numbers. IF the yahoo TD Pinz group is still up, A modern TD parts book is on there for download. If not, contact me by a PM and I can send it to you. It's a 2001 manual for 716 but pn's are correct and apply for all except 718 dedicated parts. And there are liste...

Re: New member! Also, advice on a diesel pinz....

Don't use anything you read for the 710/712 for the 716/718. Very few things apply or interchange. The major difference between the 716 and 718 is the extra axle, nothing else in the drive train is different. T cases are the same, but there is an optional lower one for the 718 , but supposedly hardl...

Re: Trailering a 710?

ChickenPinz You're not going to have much choice for a trailer, it should be 7000lbs and must have brakes on at least one axle. I would not use a FJ as a long distance tow vehicle. Even that it's within factory parameters, it is on the small size and light and the brakes are adequate only for the ve...

Re: New member! Also, advice on a diesel pinz....

Good luck with your purchase. That is a nice box on the rear, wider than a normal ambulance box. You might look to make a fold out Murphy type bed in the side opening that would give you more interior room for the camper build-out. IIRC, the additional interior width also allows for a bed across the...

Re: Buying this monstrosity...1983 Pinzgauer

My personal opinion would be to buy a somewhat stock Pinzgauer if you wanted community support. I would have hoped that if the OP did buy this vehicle even though it is not liked, the "community" would offer as much support as is possible to support the OP and his vehicle. Pretty poor for...

A red head step child. The only support would be from the original Dr Frankenstein that made it.

Even for being RHD, I am surprised this hasn't sold. Especially since Americans don't have a problem buying LRs in RHD.
It looks like the box would make for a nice overland camper being larger than a ambulance box

Re: No Brake Lights

In recollection of a conversion I did 19 years ago on my 710 and 712 and before SAV had written instructions... This is for Swiss Pinzes only, as Austrian trucks are different. Remove the power lead going from the brake master cylinder to the column indicator switch. Under the dash, remove the pink ...

Re: ATL Pinzgauer 718K TUM(HD) 6x6 FFR (aka The Green Grail)

That was from a ATL employee, from the '90s to the end. From a chart of ATL's annual production, 6 of the 7 LHD's can be accounted for to countries that only use LHD, the 7th was to a typically RHD country. It has been years since I've looked at the chart, but remember looking for trucks over years ...

Re: ATL Pinzgauer 718K TUM(HD) 6x6 FFR (aka The Green Grail)

Udo Thanks for that. I knew the Austrian total was under 6000 units and would say to people that there were less than 7000 totals TDs made ( which is true  ) but now can say less than 6500. which gives a little cushion if any "covert" Pinzes pop up. :D And to put that in perspe...
