Those bolts are at 250 ft lbs torque and have blue loctite on them.

It depends on what state you reside in In California 1974 and older applies, and as far as I know TD,s can only be registered for off road use.

SAV has a top end kit for around $1650 last time I looked, I highly recomend this set-up as it includes cylinders

There are a few things that can cause backfiring through the carb, Most obvious would be water in the distributer cap or on points(dry and wipe down with WD-40). Also check the timing, low float level in carb(lean pop), broken vac lines causing a vac leak. Could also be a tight or burnt intake valve...
