Here's a few photos of the custom made seatcovers that you can get from seatcovers.net. David, a 710 owner in Mesa, made this possible by taking his seats over for measurements. They appear to fit better than the universals that I bought. Ask for Jeff if you call to order. http://i946.photobucket.co...

I installed the new back seats today using the same material. I have a radio truck, therefore only 3 seats. http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad303/rmf1958/DSC06243.jpg http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad303/rmf1958/DSC06244.jpg 3 inch padding made quite a difference in comfort! I have 2 sets of ...

When I removed the limiting strap I had a jack under the brake drum. Once removed I lowered it another inch or so and that was all. I can't say whether or not that extended travel pressured any seal or not. Loosening the lower pin takes more downward pressure off of the axle housing, but it doesn't ...

Yes, I did grease the splines with moly as advised by Jim in one of his posts. The shaft also looked good next to the splines, like it had not been over-torqued in the past. I heard that is where they like to snap. I didn't notice any old Loctite, but I did clean up the inner housing until it shined...

You could fry an egg on my seat in the summer, so I would always carry a spray bottle of water to cool the vinyl seat down before I got in. I would fold the seat down most of the time, but it doesn't take long to get hot in the sun. I don't drive much in the summer, so I keep the Pinz under an awnin...

Axle housing removal and installation

Yesterday I had a learning experience removing the rear axle housing to replace an o-ring, boot, clean and paint the housing, and clean/paint the springs and cups. http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad303/rmf1958/DSC06196.jpg http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad303/rmf1958/DSC06194.jpg I came up wi...

Seat covers

Here's a set of inexpensive seat covers I recently installed. I got them from a business in Mesa, AZ, called seatcovers.net. They will make seat covers out of a large choice of materials, this pattern seemed to go with my 710M the best. Davis, a Pinz owner in Mesa, took his seats to the factory last...

I found my own answer doing a search (duh..). As usual, it's Jim with his handy tips, he's the best.

Rear springs

I was reading through the Pinzgauer repair manual on how to remove the rear axle housing, which is straight forward. To remove the springs, the book says "Twist out lower spring support bolt" and "Remove springs together with spring retainer". It makes no mention of using a sprin...

I did have the blackwalls facing out at first, but then the tires began to wear on just one half. So I had them turned around on the wheel and rebalanced. For what I paid for those tires I'm going to get 100% of the tread use, having the white letters out looks pretty good.

I've put about 34,000 Km on my 710 over 6 years and never used additives. I just did a leak-down test and all cylinders were well within range, so that tells me that unleaded is OK.

You can go by the firing order in the ditributor. For example the rotor is pointing to #3, that piston will be near TDC of the compression stroke. Slowly rotate the crank pulley and watch the rockers on #2 (that piston is also at TDC of the exhaust stroke). Find a point where the intake rocker start...

My wheels are factory Pinzgauer wheels, painted OD with all the stampings and appearance, but have been widened to 8" with the correct offset. Send me you email address and I'll send some photos.

I run Goodyear Wrangler MT 285/75/16 on aftermarket 8" Pinzgauer steel wheels. In 6 years and 20,000 miles I never had a problem, never even had to add air. I drive the 80/20 road/offroad ratio, maybe 85/15. The tires are due to be replaced this year, and I plan to go back with the same ones. R...
