Re: Looking for a good Pinzgauer mechanic in SoCal

Jim LaGuardia is definitely your man for SoCal. Alternately, if for some reason you can't get his work due to a backlog or something, and you're willing to travel all the way up to NorCal, then Expedition Imports in the San Fran Bay Area is who you want.

Re: How difficult and expensive is it to paint your Pinz bod

Andre and a painter are doing mine. They are scuffing the OD and then will be shooting with a commercial Martin Señor paint. Key for me was the salt spray rating, chemical resistance and abrasion rating. This paint will stand up to acid and brake fluid with no degradation. Sounds like some blood aw...

You might also try OzTent. Good materials, about thirty seconds to one minute to pitch, several models available. Apparently specifically made for the overlanding crowd. Lots of YouTube reviews on these.

Re: TentCot, anyone?

Do the tent angles at either end make your head or feet feel cramped? No, they don't. But I'm five feet, eight inches tall, so take that into account. Some online reviewers of the taller variety said they did in fact feel the angles were too sharp; but if they positioned themselves diagonally in th...

Re: Air Cooled Diesel V8 Tatra T138

Ford experimented with Deutz diesels in their pickups back in the '80s. Very, very cool stuff. From what I've read the only reason they didn't proceed with mass production were changes in EPA regulations. A quick YouTube search for Deutz Ford yields fun results. https://www.youtube.com/results?searc...

Re: TentCot, anyone?

I've been a fan of the TentCot for several years because of its convenient ease-of-use for quick pitching. But they do take up quite a lot of space when folded, about 36" x 36," and the construction materials could definitely be better. They're not bad products, but not great, either. Late...

The TentCot is a cool design, to be sure. But I like the Teton Quick Tent more.

And would the four speed auto or 5 speed manual be a better transmission?

716M Real World Top Speed?

Since I've been unable to nail down a satisfactory way to get a 710M shipped to the Puch factory in Europe for a ground-up restoration and then shipped back into the USA without possibly arousing the ire of overzealous customs officials, I decided to look into a more Europe-centric solution. Ergo, I...

Re: Electrical Upgrades For A Factory Restored 710M?

I have heard that the city is a difficult place to find places to park. I am imagining you have plenty of space to store your restored vehicles, certainly not on the street Saying NYC has a parking problem is akin to saying a methhead has a slight dental problem. Quite correct in saying I don...

Re: Electrical Upgrades For A Factory Restored 710M?

I think there's been some confusion, mate. I don't restore, nor have ever restored, any motor vehicle. I pay someone else to do restoration. I just do the riding and driving. I'm not Jay Leno over here--the gearhead world is just a hobby for me, not a business. And no, I haven't ever yet driven a Pi...

Re: Who Can Do Complete Pinzgauer Restorations?

There are plenty of shops in the USA that will dip entire car bodies. A Google search revealed many, here is a sample- http://www.metaldipping.com/index.php Thanks for the linky! Very interesting process this company has going, especially the rustproofing part; anti-corrosion dipping for ...

If a 24V system is better than a 12V, please school me with some learnin for my edumacation knowledge. The operative word here is "better"; better than what? Depending on your position and perspective, better may be worse to others. But here goes: Electrical systems have two things to dea...
