Civilian Ignition What cap, rotor pugs and wires

Post by schil123 »

Hello all,

I'd like to tune up my 712A. Someone installed the civilian kit prior to me purchasing it. Can anyone tell me what part numbers, or what applications I need to look for to get the correct Plugs, cap, rotor and wires? I did a search but did not come up with anything.

There were at least 2 and possibly 3 or 4 different civilian ignition kits sold. The one that I have used a few times in the past (before the PinzSSI ignition) used the following items:

Sparkplugs NGK BPR6ES gapped at .030
Plug wires Beru - available from Expedition Imports https://www.expedition-imports.com/BERUPINZ
Cap Bosch 03010
Rotor Bosch 04004

The distributor cap has a small nub on the inner edge that needs to be ground off in order to fit flush on the Pinz distributor. Also the rotor typically needs to be shortened in height by about 1/8" to fit without damaging the cap. However the adapter plate that came with one of the civi kits did not require the rotor mod because of the thickness of the plate. You'll have to look closely at your set-up to see what fits. If you do a search thru the forum there should be a couple of threads on the civilian ignition.

Which Beru spark plugs can be used with the civilian ignition conversion?

I have been looking for cross references, but there seem to be a lot of different Beru part numbers.

The civi ignition conversion is installed, and next on the list is the Pertronix (if anyone is looking to sell one let me know)

Thanks

Beru's website indicates either Z20 or Z21 but I'm not familiar with Beru's offerings. I've always used NGK on my Pinz with no problems and they are readily available at a reasonable price. Original plugs were Bosch.
