712K exhaust routing

Hi everyone. First time poster. I have a new to me 712K that has its exhaust pipe routed straight back out of the muffler, and runs underneath the body to the back of the vehicle where it exits out the side. The pipe threads through a narrow gap between the floor of the box and one of the support arms on the central tube for the double axle. The exhaust pipe is actually pinched a little to make it fit in this narrow gap and rubs against the top of the support arm. I will post a picture of it. The rear is dropped in the picture, so the clearance looks bigger than it really is. You can see the rust leaving a rub mark on the support arm where it hits.

My question is, have others tried routing the exhaust pipe more in the wheel well so it bypasses this narrow gap and did it create any problems? It seems a bit more exposed but wondered if its really a problem.

While its all apart, I was thinking of having the exhaust system replaced with a stainless one, and wanted to get ideas on alternate routings for the pipe.
Thanks
Scott

Last october I have seen a 712K with an M-type exhaust , sightly modified
I took this pic as an inspiration

Thanks Hotzenplotz. I wonder if they have to make adjustments to compensate for lower back pressure with that type of exhaust?

Rerouting should not be an issue at all
This is a 710M (Pinzinator's) but gives you the general idea

I have a hi clearance muffler in my 712 and have had for some time. The pipe is routed up over the body supports and out the back where it is turned down. The only time I have had it rub was when the support on the exhaust pipe broke and dropped down just enough to touch the cross member. No adverse issues and no contact when supports are intact.

Thanks for the reply 4x4Pinz. Sorry for all the questions, this is new ground for me. Was the hi-clearance muffler something that was custom fabricated, or did you adapt an existing manufactured unit? Also, does the exhaust pipe exit out the back or out the side of your muffler?
Thanks
Scott

just took truck to local exhaust shop and had them install a hi backpressure muffler and take the pipe to the rear. They have done several pinzies for us in this area. Some of the 710's like you see where the pipe is up near the rear mud flap support but the 712's we take to the rear.

I had a SS "small" (louder) muffler installed about 12 years ago; the muffler exit was at the rear so they routed it this way:

Originally they had routed the end straight outwards, but I added the curved tip. It is not supported anywhere past the rear of the muffler. It does shake a bit but not enough to rattle against the body.

Thank you for posting that Jim. This is giving me good ideas.

I thought I would post a couple pictures of how the exhaust system was eventually routed for whoever the next guy is that has to do this.
