engine timing and distributor driveshaft

Hi Guys!! im Back its been like 10 years and im getting my Pinz on the road again!
Im having an issue i cannot get the timing mark to come any closer than about 40ish mm before the pin :(
when i turn the distributor in the direction it needs to go it hits the fan shroud.
i looked through the manual (page 36 sction A ) and it says its possible to move the distributor driveshaft a few teeth over but i wanted to check with you guys to see if i am correct ??

Perhaps your distributor is rotated about 160 degrees out of position
and you just need to rotate in the opposite direction nearly 1/2 clock?
Seems odd that it had worked before (even in the distant past) and
now the inner geared shaft has to be pulled and re-aligned ?

it seems really odd but I'm almost positive that I need to move the distributor driveshaft over a tooth or two. the manual says the shaft should be 90 degrees to the driving direction and mine is not. i made sure the #1 piston is at TDC and the timing marks on the distributor and flywheel at #1 when i removed the distributor the shaft underneath was not at 90 degrees. i have no clue how the truck was running fine.

Going on the assumption it ran well before, then I suspect the slotted shaft
of the distributor is clocked 180 degrees out of place. Rotate the slot position
then you may be able to rotate the body of the distributor in the opposite
direction away from the cooling shroud. Just think'n ://

The cogs (teeth) on the bottom of the shaft are not 180 deg opposed through their centers, so it's unlikely that the distributor could be removed and rotated. It's possible that the internal plate, weights and springs have become corroded over time and now need a good cleaning and lubricating.

im reffering to the distributor driveshaft its inside the engine and accesable through the same hole the distributor goes in look at the manual page 36, Fig. 79, section A its possible to move it over a tooth and that was my problem.
what are you using to share pictures i tried to upload some but it failed

I didn't realize that you could remove and adjust that internal shaft that drives the distributor. I learned something new.

I simply drag the jpeg files into the reply box and they automatically upload. I then check the "place inline" box that appears after the file uploads.
