Heat exchange top mount threads stripped

Post by ChickenPinz »

Anyone else found the two threaded holes in the top of the heat exchanger stripped out?

Current plan is the helicoil them.

It seems an odd failure, thus my curiosity if anyone else has had this happen.

Best to use timecerts, but helicoils will work.
Common problem.

Thanks, Jim. Yes, Time-Certs look nice, and certainly appear superior to Heli-coil inserts. They'd be my first choice for higher stress locations like headbolts.

FWIW, heli-coils are generally considered to meet the bar for most aviation work, but again, yes, time-certs look better.

Thanks!
