Cooling Fan Shims

I had a fan detonate on me last week (operator error, sound insulation gone crazy... don't ask)...

I got a new fan in, along with a new belt, might as well upgrade right? Thankfully the fan came off easy, not over tightened, but there are ZERO shims located on my truck... Would have been nice if they stacked them outside the pulley, but I digress. I had SAV send me a full size shim and a half size, and when stacked this gets me close but I still feel the belt is too tight. I plan on ordering a few more this week from SAV, but is there a set amount for a new stock belt? like 3 or 4 shims, or do you just add enough to get to the right belt tension.

Thank you

Add/Subtract washers for the proper tightness. Belts come in from
various sources and can be +/- a couple of millimeters or so. Then
after break-in typically loosens up a bit and may need a tweak.

I ended up using 4 full size shims for a new SAV belt, I could probably have gotten away with three, but I figure it's better to go loose (within spec) than too tight. I will keep en eye on this as the belt breaks in and adjust as needed. Super easy to do!

Try to crank the engine over with a 27mm socket on the fan nut. If you can do it without the belt slipping it is tight enough. If the belt slips at all it is NOT tight enough.
