Question on crankshaft pulley

Post by Hugues »

Hi all,

I changed the oil seal that sits just behind the crankshaft pulley on my 710M.
Now i'm putting back the pulley on the shaft, it is quite tight, i still have 19 mm to go.
Question: there is a keyway in the pulley, and a key on the shaft, how do i make sure both are aligned when i gently tap the pulley all the way ?
I did put a mark on the shaft before installing the pulley, but it's not super precise. I'm just wondering if the 2 are aligned precisely, in order not to damage anything.

Visibility is not great, with my phone or a small USB camera, it looks like the 2 are aligned, maybe i see the rounded tip of the key coming into view in the keyway, but not 100% sure.

I don’t tap it in, I draw it in with the bolt and check it frequently to ensure I’m not pushing the woodruff key into the crankcase.

Heat is your friend.
I put the pulley in the oven heated up to 150°C, and it slid on...
Cheers
