Muffler Replacement

Post by goudacheese »

I need to get a new muffler. While revving the engine it started backfiring and eventually blew the muffler wide open. Swiss army only sells the side pipe muffler and I have the rear pipe. Any ideas?

Gee that muffler was replaced a few mos prior to you getting it! Is the backfire issue cured?

Mark, I am going to work on it this weekend. I am going to re-adjust the timing to around 12 degrees and remove the round ballast/resistor and check the wiring as it may be sending full voltage to the coil. I ordered a dual input, single outlet muffler and will have it installed once I fix the backfiring.

A common problem that causes backfires is exhaust leaks, are you still using the stock 2-pipe "flex" joint? You may not hear anything, but air can be sucked in on decel making a possible rich issue worse.
