Missing plug on Carb body!

Post by jpipes »

I'm in the middle of rebuilding the carbs on my 710M and found after completing the first carb that the second carb is missing one of the (I assume) aluminum plugs on the choke side. The image below shows the finished carb with all plugs present. Where the arrow points is the location of the missing plug on the carb I am working on now.

I believe those plugs simply fill the molding points from when the carbs were machined, and they should never come out or be removed. Somehow that one is missing on my second carb! Hopefully that is a large reason why the engine was running so horribly leading to a carb rebuild in the first place.

Any ideas as to what diameter those plugs are so I can find or make a replacement? Any other thoughts?

We are considering getting a tap and set screw to "plug" the hole.

Make sure the plug has a head so it cannot work it's way in
