Pulley w degrees

Post by McCall Pinz »

I took a few minutes to create this layout in CAD. If printed without any re-sizing, you'll get an accurately sized pulley with the degrees. This might be useful for some of the timing issues here lately.

I have been having a very hard time timing my engine. The pulley has a mark on the outer rim that I always thought was the mark to align with the block pointer. After enough frustration, I decided to explore the outer limits and found that the engine runs quite well with the mark delayed about 40mm away from the block mark.
Still with only trial and error I managed to get her running ok, but today I decided to use again the timing lamp just to play a bit, and discovered that the pulley has inside the belt groove, a series of 6 marks that align quite well with the block pointer.
I never read anyone on the forum refer tomthese marks... The pulley looks like the original on the manuals.
