Foreign object in oil pan

Post by bbonomo »

Hey friends, I'm replacing the gasket on my oil pan and found this piece of metal screen. The oil pump pickup screen is intact and in place. Any suggestions on what it is, where it came from and what I might expect to happen next?

Thanks!

That is the end of the scavenge oil pump pick up. The tube runs from the secondary oil pump to the front of the case, on inclines it keeps oil from welling up behind the front pistons

Thanks Jim! It looks like it's damaged. Any idea about how that might have happened? Should I expect more parts to flush out? Any concerns about it?

Where is the secondary oil pump?

Crude explanation:The oil pump has 2 pump chambers/sets of gears, stacked back to back, the front part scavenges oil from the front of the case back to the sump and the rear pump lubricates the engine internals.
Would not worry about it, the stressed part is broken off. some of the replacement pipes are just crimped in the middle and suck from the end and 4 holes near the end of pipe.
