Locking the nut on the fan pulley

Post by JimmyC »

I recently had my Pinz serviced and on the way home the nut that holds the fan pulley together spun off and it threw the belt. I managed to find all the pieces (in the rain)and put it back together. I think somehow they failed to get it tight when they adjusted the belt.

I was surprised that there was no means to lock the nut like a tab washer.

Is this a common problem, and if so, how do I avoid it?

To avoid this type of thing either find a competent mechanic or learn to do it yourself.

Proper torque should have prevented this.

If your mechanic does not have access to the shop and operators manuals and the knowelege to read and understand them he should not be working on the truck.

My $15 harbor Freight torque wrench was invaluable when putting the heads back on recently. I would suggest grabbing one, for the limited use it gets, don't need to spend a fortune on one.

If you're feeling extra fancy (or want a little insurance over Harbor Freight) I've had AWESOME results using the Tekton brand from them. I think it's their best seller too!

Can't remember the brand that is on mine, might be same, just know I was surprised by the quality for the $$$. Nice to have anyway for things such as this.
