Last summer I had my hand brake bind up on the disc, get really hot from friction, and literally start smoking. I put a new disc in and overhauled the brake mechanism.
Now I have noticed that my rear differential is leaking into both axle boots and also into the hand brake housing. Seems like the overheated brake housing ended up cooking my diff. seals and is causing the leaks.
What I want to know is this... Which seals and or parts should I order so my mechanic can pull it and do a rebuild on it?
Thanks guys!

Re: Rear Diff. Oil leaks
All of them. Seriously. I'd go through the parts manual and order every O-ring and seal in the diff. I assume you are familiar with SAV's parts diagrams, but if not, here's a link: http://www.pinzgauer.com/parts.php?cat=pinzgauer&id=dwg
It's somewhat of a sizable job, labor-wise, to pull the diff. out. Once you're in it, you might as well renew the whole assembly, IMHO.
I don't have a list to offer you, perhaps someone else can help.

I had it done by a certified mechanic. It needed new seals. No more leaks.

I'm terrified to have to do the same thing to the front diff. eventually. Looks even more complicated and labor intensive.stiffler4444 wrote:Rather pull the rear than the front. Ask me how I know .....

I'm not too surprised. Frankly, I can't imagine someone wanting to do it for any less.Twin Pinzies wrote:I had it done by a certified mechanic. It needed new seals. No more leaks.

It's a pretty labor-intensive job, and if you run into problems... ! They aren't cheap to fix.
Remember, the first owners had to DRAFT people to fix these trucks!

Yes I'd guess twice the time to extract the front as the rear. Don't want to do it again anytime soon.Twin Pinzies wrote:I'm terrified to have to do the same thing to the front diff. eventually.
