I am pretty sure that there is are two generations of the short driveshaft for the air cooled pinzgauers - one has the u-joints in a traditional "clocking" and the other is specified with a different clocking. I don't have my manuals handy - but I am pretty sure there is something about it in there...

To my knowledge, there is only one proper way for the u-joints to align. (But I've been wrong before...)
