I just ordered my service manual but want to stay on top of things.

How do I check diff and trans fluid?

Checking the F&R differentials, transfer case, and transmission fluids requires removing the "fill plugs" and the "level plugs."
The level plugs are the middle ones... There are three plugs per gearbox... The top one is the "add fluid" plug, the middle one is the "level plug", and the bottom one is the "drain plug."
Remove the "fill plugs" and the "level plugs", then top off the fill plug until fluid starts to come out of the "level plug." That means it's full.

*Use only GL-4 fluid in the transmission ans transfer cases. And use either GL-4 or GL-5 in the differentials.
I drain and replace mine once a year.

And just to point out, some of the high-end synthetic gear oils like Royal Purple's GL-5 gear oils are actually GL-4 safe as well.

Remember never remove a drain plug without first insuring that you can remove the corresponding fill plug.

I am actually just getting ready to do mine also. I bought a gallon of the Redline. Is that enough to do all the tranny fluids?

Assume you have manuals - if not it should be 1st purchase
