removing gearbox question

Post by audiocontr »

The manual says to "support engine" prior to removing the bolts on the carrier tube.

Support the engine how and where?

Just put a jack or stand under the rear of the oil pan, use a piece of wood between the engine and the stand or jack.

Thanks Jim. I've pulled the bolts and the shaft off, but it appears i'm just going to have a hell of a headache without a transmission jack. A standard floor jack isnt going to cut it. Locally priced - $400+ each. Ouch. For that price and the in frequency i'd use it, best to pay someone to do it for me!

Hey, don't give up. It's not very heavy, and there's plenty of space to maneuver. One guy can do it, but two could do it handily. It looks way heavier than it really is, but I can't quote you the exact weight.

At a minimum, use a floor jack to support the main weight, one guy to stabilize the tranny, and the second guy to finish up any details...

It's truly a very easy pull.

Yup, its the 710 =)

There are a few things that I want to fix before I sell it. I couldn't sleep at night pushing issues off to another.
