speedo cable replacement...I'm now getting to it

Post by texas pinzgauer »

I'm tired of not knowing how fast I'm going so I have begun the process of removing the old (and hopefully damaged) speedo cable to replace it with a new one from Thilo.

Here's the problem, the hole in the floor is tight as the heater control cable also runs through it. I'd really like to not begin to disconnect other stuff in the centrol control area just to fish this replacement speedo cable through the floor.

Any guidance, suggestions or wisdom on the preferred replacement technique would be appreciated.

If the housing is still good, just replace the inner cable. If the housing is bad, I find it easer to slide the cable retainer through the hole by sliding it back and cocking it to fit through the tight bore.
Takes some practice and a little time. An extra set of hands can speed up the job

Mr. Pinzgauer, meet Mr. Dremel....or as Tony Montana said in Scareface, "Say hello to my little friend".

I did just a little grinding and along with the help of #1 son, we fished the new speedo cable through the body / fire wall so I now I know how fast I'm going.
