Chirping Noise

Post by Stekay »

I occasionally get a chirping noise that turns into a screech that seems to be coming from the transfer case area or maybe the right rear hub. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I'll be changing all fluids this weekend and will check the wheel bearings while I'm at it. It sounds very much like a slipping belt, which I did change last weekend and will check tension on again as they do tend to stretch initially. I'll update either way. Thanks -Steve

It's not by any chance a bird's nest?

That would certainly explain the chirping and I could well imagine circumstances during driving which would so alarm a clutch of young birds that they might begin to screech.

Hope that's helpful.

Ya know, now that you mention it, it does sound like that kind of noise, but would that happen with the clutch engaged?
I seem to get it more when getting on the power and when starting out cold. I even thought it might be a harmonic setting something off but, as stated earlier, it seems to be from that right rear although on a Pinz that could emanate from anywhere. I'll play with the clutch idea... Thanks
