710 Transfer case numbers

I'm trying to tell the difference between a 710 and 712 case by looking at it (when it's out of the truck- I know you guy's sense of humor by now! :lol: ).

Does anyone happen to know the stamped number on the transfer case of a 710? I believe the number on the case is different than the
part number in the book (7101223200U).

Just the case? if its a built transfer case you should be able to tell by testing the input to output ratio. If its just the case we may have to wait for Jim or Scott for an answer.

I know the drive shaft input plate, now which of the other two output gears shall I count-The bigger one or the smaller one- or does it matter.

If i understand correctly the 6x6 in road gear is 1:1, so i'd try turning the input shaft in one range than the other looking for that 1:1 input shaft to output shaft ratio. If neither range shows 1:1 i'd think it to be a 710 box. These are guesses on my part however that's the way i'm understanding the manuals.

4x4 t cases have 2 distinct features, 1 they have a metal id tag on passenger side facing out with production date in lower rt corner, 2, there are also 2 exposed bolt heads on the rt rear case half next to the cast input shaft cover. (and if the case is out, the center shaft is in the lower position).

6x6 cases for the most part have the numbers stamped into the same area of the case itself(rt side facing out) some are stamped 6x6 and instead of 2 bolt heads on the back half, there are 2 slotted flush mounted bolts with no heads protruding.
If case is out, center pin is in high position in case.
