Oil leak at oil pan stud
Oil leak at oil pan stud
Just changed engine oil and oil pan gasket (cork)...When tightening nuts to all 14 studs that hold oil pan to bottom of engine, noticed leak was not at gasket but at one of the studs. Please tell me theres an easy/quick fix. Zig
Re: Oil leak at oil pan stud
Try re-torquing uniformly across all bolts first. Failing that
I'd go with a RTP silicone gasket maker e.g. Permatex
and skip the "cork" gasket entirely. If you go this route
invest in a RTP "gun" to apply more uniformly.

Re: Oil leak at oil pan stud
Were all 14 washers present and in good shape? The washers are rectangular and concave so that they apply pressure against the pan lip in a larger area than just the nut. Washers are Group 01-01-56 and are crazy expensive for some reason. Over time I've seen them crack and flatten out so they no longer apply pressure as intended. I've used Permatex Aviation Sealant (sparingly) on the engine side only with good results.
In case your washers are missing, McMaster sells these: http://www.mcmaster.com/#90895A029 which may work but I haven't tried them.
