Headlight wiring

Post by Rangefinder »

Hello
I just purchased a new set of headlamps for my 1973 Pinzgauer 712
The new headlights came with only the 3 point connector
I read one of the posts that said to cut the excess wires off or tape them off
those wires being the ones on the bottom of the oem product that appeared to have
a board and a smaller light within the headlight.
some refer to them I believe as the convoy light but I am only guessing this is what is being described

I taped them off and plugged my new H4 headlight in with no light
I checked the wiring on that connector and the one to the other headlight
and found that both of these had no power at all (3 way plug)

I checked the 3 wires on the small bulb assembly and they had 23.9 volts
and apparently those were the only lights that I had working thus I thought I needed the new H4's

My light switch only has three settings,

I'm a little lost but before I start into something I know little about I thought I would ask for some
guidance

Thanks
Dale

Any chance you are using the headlight switch in the blackout position? See pages 40 - 45 of the operators manual.
