Electronic speedometer sender

Hi again folks

My original speedo needs fixing, if I don't manage to do that in the next few days, I'm thinking of installing this
http://www.speedhut.com/gauge/GR338-SPE ... ogrammable
(there seem to be too many complaints about VDO electronic speedos on this forum, hence my desire for an alternate part).

But what can I use for a sender please? I dont see any senders on the speedhut site.

Thanks
Mark

I re-used the VDO sender when I replaced their gauge with a Speedhut unit. I did have to add a "pull up" resistor as shown in the installation instructions.

I'll give VDO a call on Mon to chat about senders, will report back on this thread.

Just for my own reference this on pulses per rotation

Yes, the sender emits pulses/revolutions that it sees. But then there's
a gear ratio involved as well 19/7 inside the diff.

On the electronic variety of senders it's all programmable. The Hall Effect
sender you want looks like this below, I don't know what the model number
is but I can tell you VDO has many varieties of senders and per/OEM. This
may be for "GM". IMHO get that model number if you want a mechanical match,
and you want one that is 12V/24V compatible. Maybe one reason to stick with
the tried and true.

Thanks rmel, I have seen that page, and did an image search to see if I could find the manufacturer of the parts. Nope.

I've been distracted by work (damn! ), so haven't looked into this further, but maybe I have found a local guy to fix my mech speedo.

Just go to Speedhut and get a GPS speedometer; no need for a sender!

Indeed Jimm, but all my intel says the UK government organization that takes care of vehicle licensing won't accept a GPS solution in a vehicle.... but yes, while driving this from Sweden I was using a GPS satnav and reading my speed from that.

And no GPS speedo is not the only one of my problems of licensing a vehicle that I have just imported into the UK :( I also have to get the local owners club to certify the date of manufacture of the vehicle, the fact that it is printed on the Swedish registration documents is not enough. Luckily the owners club is helping out.

Senseless bureaucracy drives me mad sometimes!

I read from your initial post your speedo needs fixing. Is it the speedo itself ? Does the flexible shaft rotate ?
Used speedos are available from Slovenia for 150 € plus shipping, and if you want it to display in miles., there are pdf documents that show how to open the speedo, and others that you can use to print a miles / kilometer background

Albert,

Do you have links for the PDFs? Or maybe just what I should search for?

Thanks
