optima batteries

Post by Jerbearyukon »

So which ones fit the pinz guys - There seem to be a bunch of models.

I am traveling out and thought I would pick up some of both reds and old yellars

That way when I take her hunting and using the winch lots I can put the yellars in.

Thanks

Hi Jer! I always forget the group #, but I know you have to order "R" models so the terminals are reversed and you can use the existing wires. Did you search for "optima"?

yipper I did thanks- found this website:

http://www.buyabattery.com/optima.html

I hope they can steer me right. I know the terminals have to be on one side or the other and not in the middle.

Can you look at these ones and see what you think. I don't see any "R " series here...maybe states side only

Jer Bear,

I have Optimas in my Pinz now that are about two years old and are working fine. My new Optimas sat for almost a year while the body was going back on my Pinz. I didn't even charge them, installed them, and they cranked it over like they were still brand new. Pretty amazing. I have heard some bad reports about the Optimas lately and would do your homework before ordering. I also eliminated the battery disconnect switch and the cut out relay. I have heard to many stories about guys frying their charging systems because a realy failed. It has worked flawlessly for over two years.

I have started putting Odyssey Batteries in everything now and they are amazing. Outstanding service, excellent warranty, similar or better pricing, and they are also Gel type batteries. Here's the website where I bought them: http://www.odysseybatteries.com/

If you still need the group number let me know and I will go out and check mine for you. I would really go with the Odeysey's.

Those Odyssey's sound good.

How long have you had them - do you use them with a winch too.

So many things changing it's real hard to keep up eh!!! (good canadian saying).

Can you get them in Canada though

Jer Bear,

I sent them an e-mail asking about Canadian distributors. Hopefully they do have someone, but I don't like our chances. Everything seemed to be on the West Coast of the U.S.

I have found a good deal for 34R Red-Top Optimas ($140 CDN ea).

Has anybody used the Red-Tops instead of the Yellow-Tops?

red tops

Post by krick3tt »

I have two of the redtops, never a problem.
The pinz is sitting the drive waiting for me to get back from Denver and it has been really cold in Seattle for the past few days...let's see how it starts when I get back.
I got the two Optimas from Michael in Ramona when we had a tech day there a few years ago. He had gotten a deal on them and they were $70 each. I replaced the original batteries from when I bought the pinz from Scott. The originals are still good but I imagine that sitting in the garage is not doing them any good.

Happy trails,
Morris

I have the red tops too. they are a little smaller than the orginal batteries and I had to make a spacer from a 2x4 peice of wood. Seems to hold up fine and never an issue of being charged. I bought them at a local farm supply store.

My Pinz is dead and I need new batteries (I think after 8 years with the same batteries I can say it is time to get new ones) 8)

I searched for old discussions and stumbled upon this one. I went to the Optima site and decided that according to the needs and accesories of my Pinz I have to go with the Yellow Optima.

The big question I have is which is the model I should choose? Can anybody help me on with this?

Thanks.
