vdo speedo question

Post by undysworld »

I've got more problems with a VDO speedo. It's one of them with "PINZGAUER" script on the face.

VDO instructions show 3 leads from the Hall sensor mounted on the end of the speedo cable. But this Hall sensor only has 2 leads. Any ideas?

FWIW, currently, the black lead from the Hall sensor goes to pin 8 and the white lead from the Hall sensor goes to pin 2, both as shown on this schematic:

Paul,
IIRC Patrick was the only source of that particular gauge. Does he possibly have any instructions still available?
All the VDO instructions I have for speedos show 3 leads.

It may be a non powered magnetic sensor. or the red ire is missing. Have you cut back the insulation a little to see if the red wire is there?

Thanks guys,

Paul
Patrick asked me to send a photo. Apparently they used some different models of senders.
The VDO info I've got also only shows a 3-wire sensor.

Jim
The two wires seem to come out of a rubber strain-relief, or some such thing. I didn't see any evidence of a third wire, but I'll double check today.
