Any point keeping old heater blower motor?

Post by spandit »

My blower motor is toast. It does turn, but not very quickly and gets a bit warm so probably needs rewinding. I've already replaced it with a modern wheelchair motor but if someone wants it to tinker with, let me know before I chuck it in the trash.

It was a 24V motor I found on eBay that was the right size. It was listed as a wheelchair motor - works anyway

How is air flow? The one in my K is a bit low on flow, but I assume that is just the way it is supposed to function.

There is a rear vent...where? I have vents at the window and the floor of the cab.
Is this a 712 thing?

It blows well. Don't know what you mean by rear vent either.

I've seen what appeared to be an original heater vent in a 710K, located on the front vertical panel in the rear footwell. Whatever ducting may have existed was missing.

Sure that wasn't the vent for the BN4 behind the driver's seat?

Clearly I need to do some research, it's a 710K

Spandit,

As I recall, it was too low to be for the gas heater. The truck had rear-facing jump seats at the bulkhead, and the vent came out below those seats. I don't recall seeing any opening that might have vented the gas heater down that way.

The gas heater outlet goes down through the floor & enters the cargo compartment at floor level (a lower level than the one it sits on) so probably that

Sounds like the the exhaust for the heater diverter valve. The earlier Pinzes had an open valve that dumped 'hot' air from the heat exchanger out by the engine... if the fan was on, it also sucked fumes and other things up through the ducts. The later models was enclosed with an exhaust pipe.

The grill on the rear facing vertical wall of the passenger section of the rear in a 710k was connected to my BN4 Esparcher heater for rear heat.

More importantly.....Tell me about the wheel chair motor for the blower. Inquiring minds want to know. How difficult was the install? Part number/MFC?

Thanks

It was a 100W, 24V motor, I'll see if I can find a model number. The spindle needed turning down which I did by clamping the body in the lathe chuck (locked) & powering the 24V motor. I then used the standard cutting tools

The mounting was a bit different but nothing insurmountable. I fitted a 2-way connector so I can remove it more easily should I need to but it seems better sealed than the original

Found a picture of it installed:

Sorry about the quality. I'll go outside now and see if I can find a serial number or something. It cost me £16.60 from eBay
