Brake lights stay on

Post by PittsPinz »

Searched for this issue but everyone else seems to have the opposite issue of them not working????
As soon as I power it up, amber lights come on and stay on.
Pushing brake pedal makes NO change.
Thought I had a loose/grounded wire but haven't found anything?????

Possibly a bad brake light switch on the master cylinder.

Not sure why...might check fluid in brake reservoirs. Might even be the switch on the system being stuck in the closed position.
Amber brake lights? Got rid of those as soon as I bought the pinz.
Switched the internals as it appears that drivers in US cant seem to comprehend amber brake lights. Got too close to
being hit many times.

edit: while I was typing two suggestions came up for the switch...Ha.

FYI: The switch on the master is on the back as viewed from the driver's seat. Not too easily accessible for removal, but you have enough room to remove the terminals and ohm it out.

If you disconnect one terminal at the master cylinder and the light goes out, bad switch...no brainer.. but the failure is probably the same as many where the brake light switch fails in the open position.... crud in the brake lines. But, no matter how much you flush the lines, the crud will build up in the brake light switch, and only removal and careful flushing and cleaning may bring the switch back to life....cheaper to replace.
