VDO Electronic Speedomter Wiring

Post by landy »

I bought a VDO speedo to replace the original one which stopped working. The gauge wiring diagram shows a wire from the light switch to the gauge lights. I haven't yet looked at the book of the original switch so are there terminals on the back that I can connect the wire for the gauge lights to, or do I have to splice a wire? If so, is there a recommended wire or location?

The diagram shows a wire from the fuse block to the gauge for a power source. Is there a recommended splice location or some other location that would be better?

Thanks!

Did you buy a 24V unit?

It's pretty straight forward. Find a 24v source with ign on, re use the speedo light wire, run a separate ground wire for the light.
Route and secure wire from sender using same pass through as cable.

Is there a particular 24v source you'd recommend? Best to splice the new speedo wire in somewhere behind the dash, molex connector, or somewhere else?

Thanks!

You can get 24V for the speedo from circuit breaker #2. Connect a wire to the driver's side (left) terminal of breaker #2 and then to the 24V terminal of the speedo.
