Extra Brake light

Post by mopar »

So I added a red LED extra brake light but I can't find the orange brake light wire I followed it in the main harness but it doesn't come out in the end. I checked at the lights and at the trailer connector. Is there a junction box somewhere that I lose it at? I also figured out the signal lights and brake light wires I have are the same so it would flash when signaling. All my signal lights are connected in the trailer conector so If I disconnect the wires there I lose all my lights. I was gonna use the pink wire but I can't find it under the dash to jump it to the brake switch. Any pointers or help?

This is the brake light I'm using nice and Bright and fits nice.

NICE! looks good. I was looking at mounting one like the Jeep crowd (up on the spare tire). How is for access to the rear area?

I drilled one hole in the center for the wires through both walls(Body is like a square tube crossmember in that spot) fed wires(shrink wapped togther) through and they come out to a nice big access hole that will make wiring fairly easy. Just need to remove pintle or hitch for easy access. I removed pintle because I am adding a 2" receiver but you could just as easily put the pintle back after s well.

I dilled 2 holes for the screws and then tapped the holes(body is nice and thick there so takes a tap nicely) for theaded machine screw.

The pink wire is connected to the headlight switch at terminal # S58. You can disconnect it since it was only for use with the blackout lights. Just splice an extra length of wire to it so it reaches over to the brake light switch (in place of the orange wire) and you're all set to use it for your brake lights.

Your new brake light looks great - nice find!

Thanks Paul. That did the trick and worked out nicely. Funny thing is I don't have a junction box all my lights are tied together in the trailer plug(very messy and kind of tight on space) but they are functional I wonder if the junction box was removed durring a refurb or the earlier trucks didn't have them. I could swear I had one on my other 712 or maybe I've seen it on one of my friends my 710s but I clearly remember seeing one on the underside rear and thinking to myself that can't be the best place for it. Anyone have a picture of theirs in case I'm just overlooking it.

Light works good. It isn't specified as 12v or 24v but it works fine I tested it out(for $10 I wasn't to worried if it burnt up but it didn't) on some spare batteries beforehand. Black wire connects to the running lights , Red to Brake lights, and white to ground. Is lit up when lights are on and gets brighter when brake is pressed.

Here's the new junction box:
newbox.jpg
I don't have a photo of the old /original style but it's not really a box - just a black plastic terminal strip with screw terminals clamping the wires. The new one mounts in the same holes as the old.
I've never seen a Pinz without the junction strip/box so a previous owner may have removed it when it got too corroded. :?:

Yes I'm missing that. Now I remember looks like a tuppaware container. My Trailer connector housing has 2 holes with grommets and all the wires meet in there both look factory. The previous owner didn't have a chance to do anything to the truck (he never even registered it)as he passed away from a car wreck a few months after purchasing it in 2007 before that it came from Eurotruck Importers so maybe Sean Philyaw did it.

I added LED brake and tail lights in the location of the reflector. Spliced them into the original lights as the LED lights do not draw enough juice to work with the original flasher and I did not want to replace that.
Very bright.
