Flash and engine dies

Post by Dogslovetrucks »

New gremlin today. Turn signal flash indicator started randomly coming on approx every 10 seconds, and kills the engine. If I'm running down the street, it just restarts and it's no issue. If I come to a stop and don't rev the engine, it's gone, but starts right back up. No lights on the outside of the truck are coming on when this happens and turning on the blinker/hazzard makes no difference. Electrical is not my strong point, so any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Clarification- the lights on the outside of the truck will come on if I turn them on, but turning them on does not stop the short.

What kind of ignition system are you running? Original points? Petronix?

I would spray out the key switch with electric parts cleaner, I would check the Molex connector on the side of the air tunnel. And I wonder if you have short/loose connection between the key switch and the rest of the system.

Pertronics- I had the molex apart 4 months ago and cleaned but good advise to do it again. Will also try the electrical cleaner as prescribed- thanks!

Glad to hear it! Intermittent engine problems can be a real pain.
