Remember the battery cutoff switch interrupts the ground circuit. if you ground any thing directly to the battery you are potentially defeating the system. there is also a relay in the cutoff circuit that is intended to temporarily maintain the circuit in the event the battery cutoff switch is switched off when the engine is still running to prevent alternator damage.

Actually only the negative post of one battery is grounded - its a 24vdc system.
