SAV kit to flip taillight lamps

Post by McCall Pinz »

If you want to keep the original taillights and lenses, SAV has a kit which flips the lamps. I first saw this on Morris/Krick3t's truck. With the kit, turn signals are amber; running and brake lights are red which is closer to US standard. The installation took about 2 hours and most of that was being careful with the lenses. The gasket is a very gummi and bonded to the lens and the taillight body and took a long time to soak with silicone spray and CAREFULLY pry open. A hair dryer was helpful to soften the plastic taillight body too. You'll also have to open the instrument panel and pull the pink wire off the light switch, extend it by 2' and then plug into the brake light switch. The new lamp for the running lights is brighter than the old little lamp so there's some improvement in visibility. However, if you're worried about that, then go to one of the LED options in the other threads that has a better view angle.

When I installed the LED tail lights I hooked them directly into the existing lights. Not really an extra draw on power and they don't need any additional flasher controls to operate.
I also did this operation on the Mog (before selling it) and it just made sense to do it to the pinz. Such an easy fix to make it conform to US standard lighting.

Flip idea is pretty neat one - smart and keeps your truck as close as stock as you can while getting close to NA light colors.
Neat idea if going for stock look
